Just You and Me Kid

Lucie and I have made it 5 days and nights on our own now and we are doing AOK! She continues to do new things every day - I guess it will be that way from now on. When she first got to our house 5 days ago, she didn't know how to use some of her toys and she wouldn't put her feet down for the ones where you need some foot action. I am proud to say that she now knows how to use every station on her exersaucer and can spin herself around quite well. Her legs aren't quite long enough to ride her car or her zebra, but she has learned that if she leans to the side just a little that she can push herself along with one foot. Sometimes she pushes backwards a step for every frontwards step, but it's still movement that she is doing herself. She loves her door swing/jumper. For some reason she does not sit quite straight in the seat, so she leans to the side which allows her to only jump with one foot touching the ground and the other one kicking out in the air. The first time she did that I thought I was going to die laughing. She also likes to spin round and round as much as she likes to jump. She loves her books, which I am thrilled about. She looks at them, turns the pages, and then usually starts chewing. I have been able to keep her attention long enough to read some of the short ones to her, and she seems to enjoy that.

We are both doing better from our sicknesses but not totally well yet. Lucie continues to swipe at her ears so I think they must still be bothering her. We finish up her antibiotics tomorrow and we go back to see Dr. L on Tuesday. Her dry cough is gone, but she still has a lot of congestion. I feel so bad for her. She is a real trooper when it comes to taking her medicine, though I'm sure it doesn't hurt that it is yummy flavors like grape and bubble gum. She opens wide, lets me put it in her mouth, then leans her head back to swallow. Such a good girl! When we were at Grandmommie and Papa's house last week and Auntie L spent the night, Lucie tried to give Auntie L medicine. It was very cute.

We are still working on getting adjusted to life in our house and the time difference from Viet Nam. Dr. L said it might take a month - yikes! Lucie is still not getting enough sleep - she is sleeping longer at night but is not taking any naps during the day. Her sleep at night is restless and she often wakes up crying. I always wonder what is going through her little mind, as her life has been turned completely upside down. We are making progress in going to bed later. For a few nights we were going to bed at 5pm and getting up at 1am. Last night we went to bed at 8pm (yea!) and Lucie woke up at 3am. We had a "first" this morning. She was still sleepy and not ready to get up, but was unsettled in her crib so I put her in bed with me and she slept for another two hours. This is the first time she has done this. She loves sleeping in her crib. Then when she woke up at 5am we played in bed for an hour. We both had a good time - Lucie just laughed and laughed as she was crawling all over me.

Lucie's favorite "toy" may be this box with a picture of a baby.

Lucie is so squirmy I have trouble changing her diaper.

Trying really hard to stay off the carpet.

A visit from Grandmommie.

Visiting with Uncle D.

Play station where I have my computer. Her interest lasts maybe 5 minutes if I'm lucky :)

Lisa so I was looking at the picture of her on the Zebra on your hardwood floors and it made me remember how Nathan and I used to "clean your floors" whenever we would come over. Don't worry, we will definitely teach Lucie how to do it when she gets older :)

Lisa,

It's great to hear about all of you new experiences. I told you that being a Mommie is Great. One tip of tending to a child with an ear infection and upper respiratory ailments. For the first two years of Sam's life he suffered from the same problems - if you can prop the child up while they are sleeping it lessens the pressure in their ears. When you have an inner ear problem lying down flat hurts.Hope this little tip helps you both get a little more rest.

Always remember to make Mommie and Me memories, they grow up so fast.
